Today's Verdict
Malibu is the clear call today β€” 4–5ft Fair on a SSW swell perfectly aligned for First Point, with near-glassy conditions at 6 AM. South Bay (El Porto, Bay St., Venice Breakwater) is serviceable at 3–4ft Fair with a tight 8–10 AM window before onshore winds take over. Tomorrow is better everywhere, with Malibu stepping up to Fair-to-Good at 4–5.5ft.
🌊 Swell & Conditions Analysis

PRIMARY: 2.4–2.5ft @ 13s SSW + SECONDARY: 1.5ft @ 18s SSW The SSW direction (~200Β°) is Malibu's magic angle β€” it wraps around Point Dume and peels along First Point cobblestones at 4–5ft. South Bay spots face SW/WSW so the swell arrives obliquely, losing energy, producing 2–3ft at beach breaks. The 18s secondary swell adds long-period power. Sets arrive in 15–20 min lulls then 3–4 wave cleanup sets. TODAY'S TIDES: LOW –1.2ft @ 3:08 AM β†’ HIGH 3.5ft @ 9:39 AM β†’ LOW 2.0ft @ 2:04 PM β†’ HIGH 6.7ft @ 8:30 PM Low dawn tide = dumpy/sucky beach breaks. Tide push through 9:39 AM improves shape. 6.7ft evening high kills South Bay. Malibu's cobblestone holds shape across all tides. WIND ROTATION: 6 AM: 1–2 mph SSE (cross-shore, nearly glassy) 8 AM: 2–5 mph SSW (light onshore) 12 PM: 8 mph SSW (moderate onshore) 6 PM: 8–11 mph W/SW (South Bay choppy; Malibu cross-shore/sheltered) 9 PM: 8 mph WNW β†’ OFFSHORE at Malibu (evening glass-off!)

Session Windows

πŸŒ… Morning 6–10 AM

MALIBU: 4–5ft, 1 mph ESE (glassy at 6 AM) β†’ Fair-to-Good by 9 AM on the tide push. The session of the day. Get there at sunrise. EL PORTO: 2–3ft at 6 AM (swell still building, low tide), jumps to 3–4ft by 8–10 AM on the tide push. Light SSE cross-shore at dawn is slightly offshore. BAY ST / BREAKWATER: 2.5–3.5ft, clean SSE cross-shore early, light onshore by 9 AM. Best South Bay window is 6–9 AM. VENICE / DOCKWEILER / SUNSET: 2–3ft, Fair. Fun but inconsistent.
πŸ† Best Bet: Malibu at first light (6 AM) β€” glassy, 4–5ft, Fair-to-Good
πŸ„ Board: 6'4" at Malibu, El Porto, Bay St, Breakwater | Foamie everywhere else

β˜€οΈ Midday 12–2 PM

Wind picks up to 8 mph SSW onshore across the board. Quality drops. MALIBU: Still 4–5ft Fair. 7 mph SW onshore creates texture but surf stays powerful. Afternoon low tide at 2 PM exposes the cobblestone β€” shorter rides but still punchy. Acceptable session if you missed morning. EL PORTO: 3–4ft, 8 mph SSW onshore, Fair. Textured faces, lumpy. Doable but not ideal. Some surfers leave, lineup thins out. BAY ST: 3–4ft, Fair β€” holds better than expected due to swell exposure. Best midday option in the South Bay. EVERYWHERE ELSE: Poor to Fair. Skip it.
πŸ† Best Bet: Malibu if you're already there, or Bay St for South Bay

πŸŒ‡ Sunset 6–8 PM + 9 PM glass-off

SOUTH BAY: Dead. 8 mph SW onshore, evening HIGH tide at 8:30 PM (6.7ft). Fat, mushy, crowded. Don't bother. MALIBU (the exception): W/WNW wind at this hour is cross-shore to slightly offshore at the First Point cove. Still 4–5ft. Fair rating holds. By 9 PM the wind rotates WNW = fully offshore. Classic Malibu evening glass-off. If you can only surf once today and want evening β€” Malibu at 9 PM with WNW offshore and 4–5ft Fair-to-Good is as good as the morning. VENICE BREAKWATER: Fair in the 6–8 PM window (structure provides some protection). Drop to Poor to Fair by 7:30 PM.
πŸ† Best Bet: Malibu 9 PM glass-off β€” offshore WNW, 4–5ft, Fair-to-Good
